“Oncology symposium Korea-Kazakhstan” took place on the 22 of April 2019. The event was organized by our KHIDI CIS office, with the cooperation of “University Medical Center” from the Nazarbayev University School of Medicine. Leading professors in the field of cancer treatment arrived from Korea to share their knowledge and experience with their Kazakh colleagues. President of Korean National Cancer Center – Eun Sook Lee has participated in the symposium, with a lecture on national politics of cancer control and latest treatment methods, in particular proton therapy. Proton therapy technique in Korea was developed in 2001 and the Proton Therapy Center was opened in 2007. Nowadays, Korean specialists have accumulated strong experience in treatment of cancer, developed protocols and guidance principles for cancer treatment using proton therapy. These methods are recognized by numerous countries due to their effectiveness and advanced-principles. Proton therapy allows to significantly extend the lifespan of cancer patients. 70% of cancer patients in Korea have the opportunity to be treated nowadays.

Oncologic symposium took place in parallel with the visit of South Korean president Moon Jae-in, and the Minister of Health and Welfare Park Neung-hu to Kazakhstan.
